Comparative studies of two marine endolithic cyanophytes (cyanobacteria) commonly encountered in marine coastal environments, Hyella caespitosa and H. balani demonstrates previously unnoticed secies-specific differences that facilitate their taxonomic characterization and distinction. The observed morphological features are morphometrically and deveopmentally evaluated in relation to their resonse to ecological determinants.
