Abstract

The mytilid genus Lithophagø is confirmed for the Upper Triassic. The Rhaetian specimen, boring the dead paÍ of coral, is compared with the Senonian L. alpina, which is associated with live coral.

Species of "Li thop ha ga" arerecorded as having existed since the early Carboniferous (Kr-ervnNN 1983). These Palaeozoic specimens and those described from the Triassic, werc not considered to represent Lithophaga, this genus beingascertained only since ttre Jurassic (Krmue¡.¡N 1 980a, 1990). Now there is evidence for a true Upper Triassic species.
